It was my birthday over the weekend (I’m 26 now!), and I got a tripod and remote for my camera. I asked for them so that I can get more creative with my wildlife photos, but almost inevitably the first thing I did was test taking self-portraits.
I am terrible at being in photographs. My best friend will tell you that when I am in front of a camera, I suddenly morph into a teletubby, with awkward posture, a weird face and a general aura of pain. I don’t know why! However, after taking about 400 photos yesterday afternoon, I am even more aware of it than usual, as only about 5 were actually presentable.
To be honest, although I’m aware of the flaw, I don’t think taking better self-portraits is going to be very high on my list of priorities. I haven’t aged much and you’ll just have to enjoy the one or two photos of me that float around the internet! I like photographing Archie and birds best
I did manage to sneak Archie into one of my photos yesterday. She’s blurry (I haven’t figured out how to focus with a remote), but it will have to do!

And here is me, trying not to laugh:

I dyed my hair a reddy brown last week, after spending two years growing out all my old dye. I’m still growing my hair long, but I got bored of not having red tones.
It was nice to have sunshine on my birthday! I have a brand new fountain pen that I’ve previewed on Twitter, but I haven’t got round to photographing it properly yet. This week, hopefully. Have a lovely Monday!

Belated Birthday Greetings! Hope you had a great day.
I do make a point of NOT appearing in photographs if I can help it, on the grounds of the results “not looking like me”. Apparently they DO. You look great in yours.
Best wishes
Thanks Mike.
love the one of you and Archie – it’s really lovely
I totally understand what you mean about instantly becoming awkward when a camera comes out – that is definitely me as well! You look good in your self-portraits, though
